Despiritualized
by Sandy Dickson
We’re each the total of each experience we’ve had
All connections we’ve encountered, both good and bad,
And from each, we learn what we should and shouldn’t do,
And a bit more about this life we’re walking through.
We stretch and grow and learn what to stay away from,
We figure things out and develop our wisdom,
As well as proclivities and each attribute,
But because our spirit grows from things that abound us
We’re to be open to many things around us,
Like mingling with people and gleaning their goodness,
Or learning from their fallibilities and weakness.
For not all lessons are those we directly earn
But every person is one from whom we can learn,
Because all are a part of what we’re each comprised—
Without each other, we’d become despiritualized.
