Doghouses and Ladders
Sandy Dickson
Ladders can be used for several situations:
To build a bridge and used also to ascend,
And in circumstances as in relationships,
They can help reach the place to be fixed and to mend.
It’s an age-old adage used often to describe
That doghouses are those abodes and places where
Guilty parties in trouble and oft quite contrite
Are put to contemplate, muse and become aware
Of their failings and how they can atone for them
Thinking on avenues to better have taken,
Then when the dwellers are sufficiently humbled,
And when offenders are deemed truly awakened,
They are given their leave of the so-called doghouse
To re-enter the happier norm from before:
To share the abode once again with the others
And resume their life through the normal household door.
A supposition we can glean from this story,
Is, it’s usually better to climb up and espouse
The more fruitful means to peaceful existence, which is:
It’s easier to tote a ladder than a doghouse.
