Do it Again (Re: Sept 11)
Sandy Dickson
We're still waiting to wake up, Lord,
From these nightmarish dreams.
Is what happened in our country
As real as it seems?
It doesn't quite seem true at all,
But for what's on TV,
Yet we know for many victims,
It's grim reality.
Innocent unsuspecting lives
In a flash, were snuffed out,
And with these events, rose a fear
And ever-mounting doubt.
As to the safety of us all
During our wake or sleep,
For the price paid by all those lost,
As vigilant, we keep.
And so we come to You now, Lord,
We know what You can do.
We're read the Biblical accounts
How You got others through.
Remember Joseph, what You did
To save him from the pit.
Remember the Hebrew people
You led out of Egypt.
Remember Sarah and her prayer--
You enabled her womb.
Remember resurrecting hope
In the women at the tomb.
Remember the doubts of Thomas,
And the fears of Joshua too.
You took them past their fearful thoughts
And turned their faith to You.
You changed David from one pursued
Into a mighty king.
You are the God of miracles,
You can do anything.
David went from leading his sheep,
To armies at his heed.
Peter turned from a fisherman
To apostle taking lead.
You've always performed miracles,
Like parting the Red Sea,
But most of all, what we recall
Is what You did at Calvary.
What we saw here on last Tuesday,
That Friday, You saw there:
Innocence slaughtered, goodness killed,
People wept in despair.
Evil danced and rejoiced that day,
Darkness eclipsed Your Son.
Eternity's tower was pierced,
But evil had not won.
Our towers here were pierced as well,
Dark smoke engulfed them too.
Heaven's sweetest song was silent,
But it didn't rattle You.
After 3 days in the dark hole,
Victory succumbed to neither.
Your dark Friday became bright Sunday
Now grant us September Easter!
We thank You for the unity
Different faiths praying together,
Bonded now in kindred purpose
No concern for skin color.
Republicans and Democrats,
United side by side,
Digging rubble for common good,
To find those who survived.
Wearing ashes of burnt buildings,
We are brought to our knees,
As the enemy intended,
But what he could not see,
Is that on our knees we seek You,
We're kneeling before You.
He doesn't know Your awesome power,
Or of what You can do.
We pray mercy on our leaders,
That You grant them wisdom,
Beyond their years and experience
In this face of mayhem.
Do it again Lord, Your healing
Heal our people and land.
Give us strength and understanding
We'll know it's by Your hand.
Throughout the ages, we have seen
Your miracles extend
Through time to those in hours of need---
So please do it again!
Do it again!
