What would Jesus do at Christmas? Sandy Dickson
Pastor Jon Dupin asked the question, “What would Jesus be doing if He were on earth around Christmas time?”
It stirs the imagination, but depending on to whom the imagination belongs, might evoke some varied concepts on the matter.
What would Jesus be doing? Trying to fight His way through the pre-Christmas sales to buy a super Nintendo?
Buying up Wal-Mart overstock to try to sell on ebay?
Hocking tickets to a big New Years Day football game?
Perhaps having photos of Himself made to send to all on His Christmas card list.
Running His charge card up to buy expensive gifts to go into debt over?
Or maybe going to churches and gently telling His children in beloved congregations that Christmas is not about all that.
And how do we treat Christmas? Much like the above. Though it’s to honor Him, we sometimes forget Him in the mix.
Some might see something they really want to buy themselves: a ‘me’ gift. Then they can call someone whose Christmas list they are on and say, “I didn’t want you to have to go through all the trouble of figuring out what to get me, so I just went ahead and got this gift for myself from you (You can just send me the $120.)
What could we give God after He gave us the gift of life and breath and the host of varied talents He’s bestowed upon us? He gives us nourishment, a way to live and all things important to us but especially the gift of His Son, Jesus?
What would we possibly give Jesus after He gave us such a wonderful gift of salvation through the loss of His own life, and a chance for eternity with Him?
He even loves us so much; He gives us the choice not to choose Him.
We can give Him ourselves, our praise, worship, love, faith and believing. We can love His people; be a blessing to them. We can live a life of giving, and we can stay in His will, both of which He would have us to do.
Whatever we do can never be enough to deserve what He has given us. We can never be big enough, smart enough, strong enough to earn God’s love or be worthy of it. But He loves us anyway.
