Tradeoff: Each Other's View
Sandy Dickson
I’m a bird, so of course I have wings,
So I can fly and see lots of things.
I can soar, swoop and glide on the wind
Land on a bug; have lunch out or in.
I’ve a birdhouse, though more oft, a nest.
Where I can eat or use it to rest.
I can sleep there or chirp out my song
But I look at folks below and long
To be able to walk the day through,
Carry things, run and drive as they do.
I’m very limited as you see
It’s not really great to live as me.
Worms and bugs are mostly what I’ve had,
Although the seeds and berries aren’t bad.
Still, I’d trade flight for mobility
If I could live as humanity.
Then there is man who looks to the sky,
And says, “Oh, how I would love to fly!
Soar and dip and have the bird’s eye view;
That those feathered and winged creatures do.
Carefree with just their songs to be heard
How grand it would be to be a bird.
