As I See It
Re: Weight Loss And Calories
Sandy Dickson
I’m going to approach this topic with logic.
And least my logic.
You know how you feel when you decide to start eating everything within good conscience. (I call the foods we know we shouldn’t touch, BC foods: Bad conscience foods.) You make a deal with yourself and by golly, you’re going to stick to your regime.
Then comes a circumstance. It’s one that has BC foods. One tiny piece or bite won’t make that much of a difference, we reason. Boy, that was good. Maybe we’ll have just one more.
But the thing with that, I believe, is that it’s not the fact that we consumed the calories. Maybe they really don’t make a difference in moderation. It’s not the menial calories, but the fact that we dared defy the rules by succumbing and consuming them. It’s some sort of retribution by the universe or some unseen entity—maybe Mother Nature herself—who says, “How dare you counter me? You made a deal and you broke it. Just for that, none of the good things you did toward your goal, count; even if you did only have one bite of a BC food; something you knew you shouldn’t. Because of that momentary indiscretion, you’ve nullified the whole day.”
That means one consumed tiny piece of candy, one paltry Cheeto, one menial bite of a piece of cake someone else makes available, breaks the deal for the day and it has nothing to do with calories or carbs. It’s merely the fact that you did it. The whole day; shot.
That’s what it seems, as I see it.
Now if you’ll excuse me, my pizza is about to burn.
